“Democracy and basics of political science”
The second Democracy Promotion Training on the topic “Elections and Electoral Process” will take place on 30.01.2024, Narva Gymnasium at 13.30 pm.
The aim of the training is to raise the awareness of young voters, to improve young adults’ and middle-aged people’s understanding of the democratic process in our everyday life, to involve young people in the electoral process and the role of fair and open elections, thus ensuring fair play in election campaigns and respectful treatment of voters, and to strengthen democracy in Estonia.
The training will focus on the following topics: introduction to basics of political science, understanding of democratic processes and its components.
PROGRAMME 13.00 - 13.30 Arrival and registration. 13.30 - 13.40 Presentation of the project programme 13.40 - 14.15 Training part I - Basics of political science (understanding of political ideas, ideologies, institutions, policies, processes). 14.15 - 14.30 Practical session 14.30 - 15.00 Training part II - Democratic processes and components of democratic theory? 15.00 - 15.15 Coffee Time 15.15 - 15.45 Practical session 15.45 - 16.00 Conclusions
The training programme provides an opportunity to develop opinion leaders among young people who will become election monitors (in their community) and share knowledge and information with friends and colleagues in a way that has a multiplier effect and indirectly influences the wider community.
We also help to reinforce voting behaviour and political culture. It is expected that a total of up to 20 young people/ or members of the public will attend the training course. At the end of the training course, 20 of the most active and motivated participants will be selected to continue their work as youth leader-observers for the European Parliament elections.
