Elections and the electoral process

The first Democracy Promotion Training on the topic “Elections and Electoral Process” will take place on 25.01.2024, Tallinn Hestia Hotel Europa at 11.00 am.
The aim of the training is to raise the awareness of young voters, to improve young adults’ and middle-aged people’s understanding of the democratic process in our everyday life, to involve young people in the electoral process and the role of fair and open elections, thus ensuring fair play in election campaigns and respectful treatment of voters, and to strengthen democracy in Estonia.
The training will focus on the following topics: introduction to the electoral process, voter’s rights and duties and their practical application.

11.10 - 12.00 Training part I - Elections (basic principles of electoral law and explanation of the law)- Arne Koitmäe Head of National Electoral Committee

13.30 - 13.50 Practical exercise: Election Model
13.50 - 14.45 Lunch
14.45 - 16.00 Media literacy of young people, the joys and sorrows of journalism- Varvara Kuznetsova, journalist and presenter of Radio 4.
16.00 - 16.30 Conclusions

The training programme provides an opportunity to develop opinion leaders among young people who will become election monitors (in their community) and share knowledge and information with friends and colleagues in a way that has a multiplier effect and indirectly influences the wider community.

We also help to reinforce voting behaviour and political culture. It is expected that a total of up to 20 young people/ or members of the public will attend the training course. At the end of the training course, 20 of the most active and motivated participants will be selected to continue their work as youth leader-observers for the European Parliament elections.
