Debate 2

II Public debate “Speak out for the further development of security and democracy in Estonia” 2.02.2024 in Narva Estonian Gymnasium, Room 315 (Hariduse 3, Narva) at 11.00 am.
The main aim of the public debates is to raise awareness among the target group of the project about key issues affecting their lives, as well as those affecting the country and Europe, to engage in dialogue between politicians and community members, to educate and advocate people’s needs, concerns and to try to find solutions. Second public debate will concentrate on questions related with security concerns in society and the future of democracy in Estonia.

Target audience: up to 40 participants (Young people, youth leaders and representatives of NGOs, local community leaders, members of local authorities, representatives of education, culture and business, and other interested parties are invited to participate).

PROGRAMME

11.00 – 11.10 Welcome and programme presentation (British Council, SSCW, NERG)
11.10 – 11.45 First debate on “Foundations of Estonian security policy and defence will” (representative of the Ministry of Defence).
11.45 – 12.15 Discussion in the working groups
12.15 – 12.30 Coffee break.
12.30 – 13.00 Second discussion “Ensuring internal security and cooperation with the community” (representative of the Eastern Prefecture).
13.00 – 13.30 Discussion in working groups.
13.30 – 14.00 Third discussion “The flaws of Estonian democracy: is there a need for a fundamental change in the functioning of the Estonian political system?”.
14.00 – 14.45 Lunch.
14.45 – 15.35 Citizens’ visions for the development of democracy in Estonia / Brainstorming project ideas and questions for political parties .
15.30 – 16.00 Presentation of the results of the debates and summing up of the discussions

PRACTICAL INFORMATION
Working language: Estonian and Russian
Catering and educational materials are provided for participants.
