On 25 January 2024, the first democracy promotion training on “Elections and the Electoral Process” was held in Tallinn at the Hestia Hotel, where experts explained in detail what elections are (from the legal and political science perspective), voters’ rights and how the electoral process works (in theory and in practice). There was a constructive dialogue between the participants and the experts (Arne Koitmäe, Head of the Electoral Service and Nellika Walder, Deputy Head of the Electoral Service) and the young people actively asked the trainers a number of interesting questions, which were answered in depth in a practical way.
During the winter and spring of 2024, the Democracy Promotion Programme will offer the opportunity to participate in a series of free training sessions aimed at improving young adults’ and middle-aged people’s understanding of the democratic process of elections in everyday life, as well as engaging young people in the electoral process and the role of fair and open elections, thereby ensuring fair play in election campaigns and a respectful attitude towards voters, and strengthening democracy in Estonia.
The next training session on “Basics of democracy and political science” will take place on 30.01.2024 at 13.30 in Narva Gymnasium. Participation is free of charge. Read more here.
The project “Young People’s Eyes on Democracy and the European Elections 2024” is being implemented in cooperation with the British Council in Estonia under the People To People Cultural Engagement programme to support social cohesion.
